Projects
Bat Monitoring Program
Bat Monitoring Program aims to gather comprehensive data on bat populations, behavior, and health to monitor changes over time and inform conservation efforts. By tracking various parameters, the program can assess population trends, identify threats, and implement targeted management strategies to protect bat species and their habitats.
Bats in Protected Areas Program
The Protected Areas Program aims to document information on bats in specific protected areas, conduct inventories of bats, establish monitoring programs to understand bat population trends, identify important bat areas in need of specific management actions, identify important areas adjacent to protected areas that should be incorporated, develop bat management plans, and secure important bat sites through legal mechanisms. The program seeks to increase awareness of biodiversity records, provide data for conservation efforts, and protect important bat habitats.
Bats in the Anthropocene Program
Bat species have been impacted both negatively and possitively as humans have expanded on the planet. The Anthropocene program evaluates these postive and negative interactions between humans and bats. Examines possible mitigation stratergies to improve bat species well being while living in harmony with people.
Cave Conservation Program
Landowners, conservation groups, and other relevant stakeholders work together as part of the Cave Conservation Programme to produce management plans for caves that have been designated as maternity or hibernacula. Depending on the situation, these plans might also encourage habitat restoration while also promoting visitor access control, bat population monitoring, and protection against disturbance of the caves.
Taxonomy, Systematics and Life Histories Program
The Bat Taxonomy, Systematic's, and Life Histories program aims to enhance our understanding of African bats through comprehensive taxonomic research, improve identification methods, and contribute to conservation efforts by providing accurate information on bat species biology and ecological requirements.
